The scene opens with Lady [[Macduff]] and her [[son]]. Lady Macduff feels that her husband has abandoned his [[family]] by going to [[England]]. She speaks to [[Ross]] and wants to know exactly why Macduff has [[fled]] but Ross assures her that she must have [[faith]] in her husband. Once Ross leaves, a [[messenger]] arrives and warns Lady Macduff that [[danger]] is approaching. She begins to [[panic]] and hopes that she can use her [[innocence]] as a means of defence because she is a woman. Lady Macduff is the [[opposite]] of Lady Macbeth because she is portrayed as a good wife and mother. The [[castle]] is then invaded by [[murderers]] who kill Macduff's entire family.
